Released: Ashigaru Mobile Wallet v1.0.0
The Ashigaru Open Source Project has officially released Ashigaru Mobile Wallet v1.0.0, their first mobile wallet. This release is built on Samourai Wallet’s 0.99.98ii app, with development work up to April 24, 2024, serving as its foundation.
Key Focus Areas:
Familiarizing with Samourai’s code base: Understanding and assessing the previous development changes.
Decoupling from Samourai infrastructure: Removal of dependencies on Samourai’s backend services.
Dojo-only functionality: UI/UX tailored specifically for integration with Dojo nodes.
Enhancements and UI/UX improvements: Small, incremental changes for a smoother user experience.
Deployment of a new PayNym Server: The Ashigaru wallet now interacts with its own PayNym server.
Notable Features:
Dojo node requirement: Unlike Samourai, Ashigaru Mobile requires a personal Dojo node unless the app is being used in Offline Mode. The Ashigaru project does not provide a public Dojo node.
Next Block fee rate estimation: Fallback to Bitcoind estimation if needed.
Support for BIP47 reusable payment codes: Removal of Samourai Wallet service fees for BIP47 interactions.
Key Changes Post-Samourai Fork:
New UI/UX: Overhauled user interface to enhance Dojo functionality and improve the wallet syncing process.
Networking Updates: Displaying Dojo information and pairing credentials within the app.
Service Integration: Removal of Samourai services and public infrastructure (including paynym[dot]is). PayNym has been migrated to paynym[dot]rs.
Fee Removal: Reduction of fees for reusable payment codes and elimination of service fees.
Compatibility and Security:
Dojo requirement: Users must pair with their own Dojo node running at least v1.25.0 for full functionality.
Tor-only interactions: All app interactions, including the update check and PayNym communications, occur over Tor.
Download and Verify:
The Ashigaru mobile app is available for Android via APK download. Users can verify the software using PGP keys provided on the project’s Keybase pages.
PGP-signed update notifications: The app automatically checks for updates via the project’s repository and will alert users if an update is available.
Open Source Commitment:
The Ashigaru mobile app is licensed under the GNU General Public License Version 3 and the code is publicly available (Tor-only).
