Learning Bitcoin One Step at the Time
Ever noticed how we rarely get taught about how money really works? It’s almost like the system wants to keep it a mystery. Most of us in the West have a pretty comfortable life, so we don’t feel the need to dive deep into financial stuff. Bitcoin? It sounds complicated, and who has the time, right? But here’s the thing: understanding Bitcoin can change how you see money forever.
In Western countries, where inflation isn’t a daily worry, there’s not much drive to learn about alternatives like Bitcoin. We get lazy. With moderate inflation, there’s no burning need to switch from what we know. But in places where money loses value fast, people are scrambling to find something that holds its worth, and Bitcoin fits the bill.
Bitcoin isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. It takes time and effort to understand. The Bitcoin blockchain, or timechain, is a mind-bending concept that needs regular study and discussion. You can’t just read a blog post and call it a day. You need to immerse yourself in it, and the best way to do that is by talking to others who are on the same journey.

The best way to get Bitcoin is by talking about it, often. Sharing ideas and questions with others makes it all click faster. That’s where BitcoinWalk comes in – combining learning with the simple act of walking. Walking has so many benefits – it gets your blood pumping, clears your mind, and gets you away from screens. When you walk and talk about Bitcoin, you’re more engaged and receptive. It beats sitting in a pub where you’re stuck in one spot and can’t move around freely.
BitcoinWalk is an open, free initiative where people meet up to talk about Bitcoin while taking a walk. Every Saturday (Satoshi day, get it?), groups gather to chat about everything Bitcoin: technology, economics, geopolitics, and more. It’s a global movement to make Bitcoin knowledge accessible and fun. It’s a chance to get out, meet new people, and learn something that could change your life. It’s a fun, social way to dive into Bitcoin and see why it’s considered superior to other cryptocurrencies.
If you’re new to Bitcoin, BitcoinWalk is perfect. You can ask questions, listen to others, and slowly get comfortable with all the concepts. It’s a supportive environment where everyone’s learning together. BitcoinWalk is more than just a way to learn – it’s a lifestyle. It helps you develop a Bitcoin mindset, preserving your time and energy. Over time, you’ll start to see money differently, and you’ll appreciate the stability and efficiency Bitcoin offers.

To many of us, Bitcoin represents a way to fix the flaws in our current money system. The phrase "fix the money, fix the world" captures the belief that better money can lead to a better world. BitcoinWalk embodies this philosophy, helping people understand and embrace this transformative idea.
The whole idea behind BitcoinWalk is to create an environment where Bitcoin enthusiasts, both new and experienced, can gather to share knowledge and insights. Walking side by side, conversations flow naturally and ideas are exchanged freely. It’s a refreshing change from the usual online forums or stationary meetups. Plus, the act of walking stimulates both the body and the mind, making learning more effective and enjoyable.
Imagine strolling through a park or along a scenic trail, chatting about the future of finance and the potential of a decentralized currency. The casual setting encourages open dialogue and curiosity, making complex topics easier to digest. Whether you’re discussing the latest Bitcoin news, debating its impact on global economics, or simply sharing personal experiences, each walk becomes a unique journey of discovery.
To encourage others to join our movement, every time we go for a BitcoinWalk, we take a group photo and post it on X or Nostr with the hashtag #ProofOfWalk. While taking the picture, we say, "Everybody say Satoshi!" We respect people’s privacy, so there’s no need to reveal your identity.

How did you choose the format of walking and talking for BitcoinWalk?
I found that while walking, we naturally focus on our next steps, plan where to set our feet, and watch the changing horizon. This focus allows us to engage in conversations without the pressure of face-to-face interaction, which can sometimes lead to judgment or ego-driven exchanges. When walking side by side, the dynamic shifts—there’s less of a transactional feel to the conversation. Unlike face-to-face discussions, which can involve power struggles, polemics, and negotiations, walking together creates an environment free from awkward pauses and small talk. It fosters honest, judgment-free conversations, making it an ideal setting for discussing complex ideas like Bitcoin.
What kind of topics do you typically discuss during a BitcoinWalk?
During a BitcoinWalk, we discuss a wide range of topics related to Bitcoin. This can include the latest news from the Bitcoin world, encompassing everything from economics and politics to technology and game theory. We also delve into discussions about energy, the environment, and philosophy, as these areas all intersect with the concepts and implications of Bitcoin. The variety of topics keeps the conversations dynamic and ensures there's something relevant and interesting for everyone involved.
How has the response been from people who join the BitcoinWalks?
People love BitcoinWalk. It offers a fantastic way to learn about Bitcoin, not only by asking questions and seeking out what others think but also by simply listening to the discussions around them. It’s a wonderful opportunity to make new friends and cultivate a low time preference mindset. Participants enjoy the fresh air and physical activity, which enhances blood circulation and makes them more open-minded to big ideas like Bitcoin. The combination of walking and talking in a relaxed environment is something people genuinely appreciate.
Can you share some memorable experiences or feedback you've received from participants?
Over the last two years, encompassing more than 100 walks, I’ve met people from all walks of life. I've met individuals from Argentina and Venezuela who have experienced hyperinflation firsthand; for them, Bitcoin is literally a lifeline to preserve their purchasing power. I also encountered an asylum refugee who was trying to send money to his family in Afghanistan and was eager to learn how Bitcoin could help, given that the traditional financial system was failing him.
One of the most memorable aspects has been "orange-pilling" people—those moments when someone starts asking the right questions and is ready to embrace Bitcoin. Seeing their excitement and understanding grow is incredibly rewarding. These experiences highlight the diverse and impactful ways BitcoinWalks can help people.
