Phoenix Android v2.3.9 Released: Enhancements for Bitcoin Lightning Wallet Users

Phoenix, a self-custodial Bitcoin wallet leveraging the Lightning Network for seamless payments, has released its latest Android version, v2.3.9. The update focuses on fixing UI issues and improving the user experience for Lightning payment users.

Key Updates in v2.3.9

A fix in this release resolves a QR code scanning issue for Lightning addresses that used a URI prefix, which was reported as issue #616. The fix ensures that users can now scan these addresses without problems, improving the functionality for receiving and sending Lightning payments.

Legacy Mode and Migration

Phoenix v2 was introduced a year ago, and with this update, legacy channels from v1 will soon be closed. Notices in the app’s v1 legacy mode have been updated, urging users to migrate to v2. The migration process is both automated and free, ensuring that users still on the older version can transition smoothly to the more secure and advanced v2 platform. Users already on v2 are unaffected.

To verify the app version, users can check their version by going to "Settings > About" in the Phoenix app.

Verifying the Release

For users wanting to verify the integrity of the Phoenix app, the development team provides clear instructions for verifying signatures. The signing key (7A73FE77DE2C4027) can be obtained from the ACINQ website or GitHub user @sstone. Detailed steps to verify the release file checksums and signatures using GPG are also provided, ensuring transparency and security in the update process.

Contributors and Downloads

The release, developed with contributions from @sstone, includes downloadable assets such as the mainnet APK and source code. The full changelog is available on GitHub for those interested in the specific details of the update.
