Alby Hub v1.8.0 Released: New Features and Enhancements for Lightning Users

Alby, the versatile browser extension designed for seamless online content consumption and payments using Bitcoin and the Lightning Network, has released v1.8.0. The update brings new features, mobile UI improvements, and greater flexibility for users managing their Lightning nodes.

Key Features in v1.8.0

One of the standout features of this release is the introduction of Alby Go, a new app added to the Alby Hub App Store. Developed by @reneaaron, Alby Go allows users to manage their Lightning nodes while on the go, simplifying the process for those needing mobile access to their node.

Another important update is that the Alby Account is now optional. While the Alby Account offers many powerful features, users now have the choice to use Alby without creating an account, adding more flexibility for those seeking to minimize their online footprint. However, the team still recommends connecting the Alby Account for access to enhanced features.

Mobile UI and Feedback-Inspired Improvements

The latest release also includes a series of UI improvements for mobile users, contributed by @im-adithya. These updates aim to enhance the user experience on mobile devices, particularly for those who want to manage their Lightning nodes or access other features of the Alby Hub while away from their desktops.

Additionally, the instructions in the friends & family app have been updated to reflect feedback from early users, making the app easier to navigate and improving clarity around the Alby Account setup. These changes, implemented by @rolznz, show a focus on listening to user feedback and continuously refining the app’s user experience.

Fixes and Updates

This release also addresses several fixes, including the removal of duplicate services for Alby Hub, as contributed by @tidley. Along with various updates to dependencies, such as improvements to the Go-Nostr and GoLang crypto libraries, the team has made technical updates to keep the app secure and up to date.

New Contributors and Downloads

The v1.8.0 release saw contributions from several community members, including new contributor @tidley, highlighting the collaborative nature of the Alby project.

Assets, including desktop and server versions of Alby Hub for Linux, macOS, and Windows, are available for download. The full source code is also accessible on GitHub for developers who wish to explore or contribute to the ongoing development of Alby Hub.
