Blitz Wallet v0.2.7-beta Introduces Ecash Integration and Performance Enhancements

Blitz Wallet, a self-custodial Bitcoin Lightning wallet, has launched its latest beta version, v0.2.7-beta, with the introduction of Ecash integration. The wallet, built using Breez SDK, Boltz, and Blockstream Greenlight, aims to offer a seamless payment experience by combining Lightning, Liquid, and now Ecash functionality within a single platform. Developed with React Native, Blitz Wallet is designed to be user-friendly while providing advanced features for Bitcoin transactions.
In the latest beta release, Blitz Wallet has added Ecash support as an experimental feature. While the integration is still in its early stages, users can now access basic Ecash functionality. According to the project’s UX/UI developer, Oliver Koblížek, this is the first step toward creating a multi-layer wallet experience, though swapping between layers with Ecash is not yet available.
To enable Ecash, users can navigate to the settings menu and activate the feature under "experimental features," selecting an Ecash mint from the provided list. Ecash will be used automatically for payments under 1,000 sats, while payments exceeding that threshold will be processed using Liquid. Once a user’s total wallet balance exceeds 1 million sats, a personal Lightning channel is opened, and Ecash is disabled.
Koblížek added that the Ecash feature is still in its beta phase and will undergo further development in future updates. Feedback from users is encouraged, and the development team remains active in their Telegram group to gather suggestions and address any issues.
Key Features and Improvements in v0.2.7-beta
Alongside Ecash integration, Blitz Wallet’s latest release includes several key improvements aimed at enhancing user experience and app performance:
App Performance Optimization: The Blitz Wallet team implemented code splitting, which reduces the initial load time by only loading necessary components. Additionally, the app has been refactored to split large contexts into smaller ones, which minimizes unnecessary page re-renders, improving the overall app performance.
Payment Description for LN Payments: Users can now add a description to Lightning Network payments during swaps, making it easier to track and manage transactions.
Bug Fixes and Stability Improvements: The v0.2.7-beta update also addresses various bugs and improves the overall stability of the application.
Ecash and Lightning in One Wallet
Blitz Wallet seeks to provide a comprehensive solution by supporting multiple Bitcoin transaction layers in one app. The addition of Ecash to its already integrated Lightning and Liquid functionality is a significant step toward creating a versatile wallet for users who require access to different Bitcoin transaction methods. As Koblížek explained, “An Ecash/Liquid and lightning wallet all in 1.”
While iOS support is still in development, the Android version is available for download, with future updates planned to improve Ecash functionality and overall user experience.
