  2. Transactional Nature: Lightning is designed for fast, efficient transactions. Payments on the network occur in seconds, without the need for a mempool or delays from block mining. This efficiency promotes liquidity and ensures that the network remains dynamic and valuable.

  3. Critical Mass: Lightning has achieved a critical mass of adoption. The interoperability of the Lightning protocol, detailed in the BOLT specifications, allows for multiple implementations of Lightning nodes to interact seamlessly. This widespread adoption ensures that Lightning is the default protocol for inter-subnetwork communication, much like English in global communication.

The Permanence of Lightning

Despite its namesake, the Lightning Network is not fleeting. Sheinfeld argues that the network's established role as the common language of the Bitcoin economy is here to stay.
