The First Unconference of Southeast Asia
With more and more Bitcoin events popping up worldwide, finding the right ones isn’t always easy. Online searches are often flooded with irrelevant crypto, fintech, and Web3 noise, making it even tougher to spot Bitcoin-only gatherings—especially those built on integrity and pure signal. That’s why word of mouth and trusted communities matter so much. More often than not, they’re the most efficient way to discover the few truly worthwhile gatherings each year.
One such event, spread primarily peer-to-peer and through various channels on Nostr, just wrapped up in Thailand.
A Truly Meaningful Place Where Many Realms Collide
Held from February 8 to 10 in Chiang Mai (the largest city in northern Thailand), SatsNFacts took place at the Weave Artisan Society, a 700 sq.m venue that once served as an ice factory. The space blended cozy outdoor areas with an industrial-style indoor setup, creating a unique atmosphere that perfectly complemented the event’s ethos: "We are here to create, innovate, and connect. Join us in building a stronger, freer future for Bitcoin"—to quote just a tiny part of the event’s official description.
Billed as a ‘Technical Unconference’, SatsNFacts successfully bridged the gap between developer ecosystem and its cultural and artistic dimensions.
Each day, from 10 am to 6 pm, the agenda—shaped directly by attendees—featured a mix of presentations, group discussions, learning sessions, hands-on workshops, and hackathons.
With 10-20 topics covered daily, attendees had plenty to choose from.
Some of the key sessions included:
Liana Workshop: A Bitcoin wallet designed to protect against loss.
TollGates: A project enabling streaming sats for internet access.
Open Vault: An enterprise wallet interface.
Yaki Honne: A decentralized media platform.
Nostr Proxies: Extended functionalities of relays with monetization.
Silent payments: Simplified payment experiences without compromising privacy.
Among the around 60 attendees were also members—and even co-founders—of solid projects like Alby, Open Sats, Nostr Dev Team, and Bitshala.
Beyond just the technical focus, SatsNFacts equally brought a strong aspect of community and culture to the space. Discussions on Bitcoin adoption, with highlights from regions like Bali, Japan, India, and Thailand, showcased how sound money, integrity, and consistent effort can address real-world challenges in these regions.
All the dynamic discussions were complemented by fresh coconut water, ice baths, a spot with traditional Thai massages, two bars serving a variety of drinks, and delicious snacks.
Finding Your Tribe Through Culture and Art
One of the highlights of the event was the art gallery located on the ground floor, near functional coworking and networking spots. With around 30 unique pieces of art, as well as various Nostr and Bitcoin gadgets, the gallery—inspired by themes of freedom and privacy—added a creative touch to the entire event.
Among the featured artworks were names from all over the world (Agi Choote, Samhain, Zed Erwan, Existing Sprinkles), nicely presented on the walls. Some creators joined the event in person, among them were for example: Bit Pop Art, AZA 21M, Satoshi Builds, Siritravelsketch, and Capymoto—with the last two representing local Thai talents.
The final evening of SatsNFacts also included a special screening session co-organized by Bitcoin FilmFest, a grassroots project run by a group of freedom advocates and activists, one of whom was present throughout the entire unconference.
This mini cinematic experience showcased seven trailers and elven short films, including:
No More Inflation, Hummingbird, Parallel Space, Unbankable, and The Legend of Landi.
Bitcoin: A New Hope, Satoshi Nakamoto - The Creator of Bitcoin, Maxis Club Show - Chapter One, The Greatest Heist in History, Hodl, and The Anatomy of Bitcoin – Genesis Block.
This session brought together around 10-15 participants, who stayed longer after the screenings to discuss the challenges and opportunities in Bitcoin-powered filmmaking, as well as the upcoming edition of BFF25 (the annual festival set to take place in Warsaw, Poland, this May).

Beyond The Hype: Building on Substance With Meaningful Connections
SatsNFacts serves as a solid foundation for fostering a sovereign future, bringing together developers and creators alike.
By prioritizing technical depth, real innovation, privacy, decentralization, and blending these with local culture and deep creative expression, the event set a high standard for any future Bitcoin/Nostr gatherings.
With respect and congratulations, we’re looking forward to more unconferences and more meaningful signal cutting through the overhyped noise.
To close, here’s a quote from one of the two main individuals behind the “Thailand’s first Bitcoin Technical Unconference”:
"With the first edition of SatsNFacts, I really just wanted to bring together the Bitcoin and Nostr FOSS communities—builders, creators, and sovereign individuals at heart. The main goal was to spark collaborations and share positive energy. Moving forward, I might explore more ways to host gatherings, especially around freedom tech. For now, I’m focusing on iterating and improving based on the feedback I’ve gathered. No fixed plans yet, but we’ll see where things go..."
