Satonomics the Open-Source Alternative to Glassnode

Satonomics Dashboard

The Bitcoin community has welcomed the launch of Satonomics, a new free and open-source suite of tools designed to compute, distribute, and display on-chain data related to the Bitcoin network. Branded as a decentralized alternative to the popular blockchain analytics platform Glassnode, Satonomics aims to provide users with a self-hostable solution for accessing and analysing various Bitcoin metrics.

Satonomics is a three-part system according to the project's creator, who goes by the online handle @satonomics, Satonomics comprises three main components:

  1. A Parser: The core component responsible for parsing and computing datasets from the Bitcoin blockchain.

  2. A Server: A small server that automatically creates API routes to access all generated datasets.

  3. A Web App: A front-end interface that displays the generated datasets in various charts and visualizations (with plans for dashboards in the future).

The entire project is distributed as free and open-source software (FOSS), including the API, which currently offers access to over 10,000 routes with more to come.

A Work in Progress

While Satonomics promises to be a robust on-chain data suite, the project's creator acknowledges that it is still in its early stages, with potential issues and inaccuracies to be expected. As such, users are advised to exercise caution when relying on the data provided by Satonomics until the project matures further.

The creator, who quit their job in November 2023 to work on Satonomics full-time, expressed relief at finally having a tangible product to showcase after a long development period.

Complementing Existing Tools

Satonomics is positioned as a complementary tool to mempool.space, another popular open-source platform for monitoring and analysing the Bitcoin mempool. By providing a self-hostable alternative to Glassnode, Satonomics aligns with the ethos of decentralization and censorship resistance that underpins the Bitcoin ecosystem.
